Modern Times - Charlie Chaplin
Cinema Arts presents a rare screening of the last silent film ever made by Charlie Chaplin.
“Modern Times“ sees his iconic little tramp character caught in a comedy/nightmare as he staggers through a world of de-humanising technology and social desperation. Determined to make his way in life and rescue a homeless girl as the age of “productivity” and mechanised society bears down on everything around them, the film is a clear and distant mirror of today.
Packed with laughs –and at the same time a prophetic warning of dystopia to come, the work is a masterclass in Chaplin’s genius in screen comedy.
